She was the daughter of the late Henry Martin and Floy Savage Faison.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Grooms; her second husband; and her beloved uncle and aunt, John and “Sis” O’Briant.                       

 She is survived by her son, Fred Grooms and his wife, Patricia of Roanoke Rapids; her granddaughter, Sara Grooms Page and her husband, Kyle of Fayetteville, NC; her grandson, William Wheeler of Roanoke Rapids; and one great grandson, Landyn Page.

A graveside service was held at Cedarwood Cemetery on Saturday, June 27, 2015 with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Ronnie loved all sports.  He played and coached the youth and especially enjoyed coaching his son Tyler and watching him play baseball.  He enjoyed motor cross racing and was world champion in the 1980’s sponsored by Kawasaki.  He also loved woodworking.  Ronnie was always there when someone was in need and always helped others.  

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at New Testament Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Parker Stephenson, his second wife, Maiborne Sadler Stephenson, and a dear friend, Joyce Manning.

Foxy came to Weldon in 1964 to pursue his dream of owning a Ford dealership.  In 1966 he developed the Ponderosa Campground in Weldon.  He loved life, horses, dancing and making people laugh.  He loved to look his nicest and was always dressed to the “Tee”.  Foxy dearly loved his family but his greatest love was his granddaughters, Lauren and Mer.  

He is survived by his son, Greg Stephenson of Weldon and his daughter in law, Sandra Stephenson; his daughter, Marilyn Dudley of Rich Square; his granddaughters, Lauren and Meredith Stephenson; and his sister in law, Thelma Stephenson.  

Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Ross of Weldon; her daughters, Beverly Ray and her husband, Jay of El Dorado, CA, Traci Isles and her husband, Mark of Roanoke Rapids; her son, Tim Moore of Nashville; her step daughter, Kecia Kane and her husband, Dennis of Potomac, MD; 9 grandchildren, Zachary Isles and Tina Bullock, Lucas Isles, Tristan Moore, Ashton Moore, Brayden Moore, Annie Ray, Owen Kane, Matthew Kane, and Carter Kane.  

Joyce enjoyed auctions, remodeling homes, going out with her girlfriends for Monday night dinner, cooking for her family on Sundays, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She and Ed attended Rosemary United Methodist Church.

A native of Durham County, she was born in Durham on November 10, 1939 to the late Burke M. and Madelein S. Cooke.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Gail Cooke.

Janice was a graduate of Durham High School, Kennedy Commercial School and attended Elon College, where she majored in Music.  She was employed as a Medical Secretary at Duke University Medical Center and served as Organist for Yates Baptist Church and Lakewood Methodist Church prior to moving to Roanoke Rapids.  She was a Legal Secretary for C.D. Clark, Jr., Attorney at Law and Office Manager for Halifax Medical Specialists, PA where she worked for over 33 years prior to retirement.  During most of these years, she also served as Organist/Pianist for First Presbyterian Church and Rosemary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, William (Billy) of Roanoke Rapids, Cindy Patterson Pittman and her husband, Harold of Raleigh, and Stephen (Steve) of Roanoke Rapids; two grandchildren, Madeline and Jessica Patterson; one great-granddaughter, Aleeah; several cousins and many close friends.

She was a constant on the organ bench at Rosemary Baptist, rarely missing a Sunday while her health allowed.  Her dedication, determination, and positive attitude were inspiring as she returned to play just 3 weeks after her right leg amputation.  Even in adversity she was a witness to her faith and along with her sense of humor continued to amaze everyone who crossed her path.  In addition to her musical talents, she loved sharing her gift of needlework, most recently in the form of knitted hats for cancer patients in area hospitals.  She loved the fellowship of her church, her knitting club, and her Friday night dinner group.  She had a sweet spirit and enjoyed a great sense of joy by serving others.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He had a love of the outdoors, horses, buggies, carriages, wagon trains, and gardening.  He was retired from the State of North Carolina Department of Corrections with almost 30 years of service.

He was the son of the late Maggie Botts and Joshua Leonard Newton.  Frank was also preceded in death by his wives, Helen Newton and Peggy Newton, and his brothers, Earl, Leonard and Ray Dean Newton.

James, a native of Halifax County was the son of the late Arthur James and Thelma Mitchell Perry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Lynch Perry, his sister, Jane Winstead, his brother, E. V. Perry and his son-in-law, Wayne Lewis.

 James served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from Halifax Linen as Superintendent with 60 years of service.

Long and her husband, Wayne of Halifax; his son, Kenneth Wayne Perry and his wife, Cindy of Hickory; two sisters Barbara Barrett of Roanoke Rapids and Daphine Ferguson of Emporia, VA; his grandchildren, Brent Mason and his wife, Wendy, Craig Mason and his wife, Terry, Brian Lewis and his wife, Angela, Kendra Barrett and her husband, Mike, Kristin Pierce and her husband, Terry, Kevin Fisher and his wife, Amy, Keith Fisher and his wife, Amy, Chris Long and Christina Keeran; fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
