April Nicole Bridgers

April Nicole Bridgers 40, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday March 13, 2014.

April a native of Halifax County graduated in the class of 1992 from Roanoke Rapids high school. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she enjoyed helping in the Sunday school office.

She was preceded in death by her, sister Jennifer Elizabeth Bridgers, her maternal grandfather, Robert R. Nowell, Sr., and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Janie Morris.

April was a very kind-hearted and generous person who loved everyone. She especially enjoyed calling the morning talk show on 102.3, WPTM. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephew.

April is survived by her parents Edward Wayne and Betty Nowell Bridgers, her sister, Emily Bridgers Lawhorn and her husband, Shane of Kenley, her niece, Emma Grace Lawhorn and her nephew Brayden Lee Lawhorn, her grandmother, Mary Nowell of Roanoke Rapids, special friend, Mark Warren of Darlington, aunts Nancy Joyner and her, husband Dennis, Jonnie Miles and her, husband Charles, Rhonda Turner and her husband, Punk, Donna Morris and Hazel Bridgers all of Roanoke Rapids, Gilda Fowler and her, husband Timmy of Rocky Mount, uncle Robbie Nowell and his wife, Tammy of Roanoke Rapids, special great aunt Kathleen Stalls and special great uncle Bobby Burton both of Roanoke Rapids, several special cousins and special friends at Easter seals, New Day fitness and her church family.

Funeral services will be held Monday March 17, 2014 at 2 P.M. at First Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids, with Minister Bane Angles officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:30-5 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Delcy Davis Draper

Delcy Davis Draper 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday March 15, 2014. 

Delcy a native of Northampton County was the daughter late Frank E. and Annie Britton Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Leston Earl Draper, three brothers and two sisters. She was a graduate in the class of 1945 of Conway High School. She was a long time active member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. 

She is survived by her two daughters Ann D. Martin and her, husband Jim and Gail D. Lane and her, husband Al all of Roanoke Rapids, her, two sons Fred Draper and his wife, Darlene of Roanoke Rapids and Richard Draper and his, wife Mary of Safety Harbor Florida, Eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grand children, four sister-in-laws and her special dog Luci.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday March 19, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dathan Hall and Dr. Julian Mills officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services and other time at 21 Fairlane Dr Roanoke Rapids.

A Special thank you to a wonderful and caring staff at Carolina Rest Home and Community home care and hospice.

Fannie B. Chestnut

 

March 26, 1925 – March 15, 2014

Fannie was born in Greenville, North Carolina, one of seven children and the last surviving child of the late Jeffrey and Nina Baker.

She died on Saturday, March 15, in the care of Hospice of Wake County.

A World War II bride, she is survived by husband Leonidas H. Chestnut of the home,her son, McNeil Chestnut, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Chestnut of Raleigh,one special grandson, Austin M. Chestnut of Raleigh, and her greatest joy in recent years, two great grandsons, Jackson McNeil Chestnut and Logan Henry Chestnut, both of Raleigh.

She is also survived by grandnieces Terri Harrison, Alyssa Gates and Jessica Hassleman, and grandnephew David Cox.

For many years she sang in the choir of Park Baptist Church and for the last years she attended the Roanoke Rapids Church of God, especially the Sunday evening gospel sings.

Her family, especially her son, McNeil Chestnut, would like to thank Hospice of Wake County for making her final days on earth peaceful. Their compassionate and understanding care can hardly be expressed in words. It was truly a blessing.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 P.M.

Jesse Clements Young Sr.

Jesse Clements Young, Sr., 90, of Littleton passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014.  

He was the son of the late James Richard and Ruth King Young.  Mr. Young served his country in the United States Army during WWII.  

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha Walker, Mildred Rodwell, Gladys Wright, and Olivia Moseley; and one brother Gordon Richard Young.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie Wright Young; one son, Jesse C. Young, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Yorktown, Va; one granddaughter, Jessica Young McCaffrey and her husband, Scott; five grandsons, Christopher, Cody, Brandon, Michael, and Colton; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at Gardner’s Baptist Church in Macon, NC, officiated by Rev. Frank Stansbury.

Leonidas H. Chestnut

Leonidas H. Chestnut

June 7, 1926 to March 25, 2014

 

Leonidas Henry Chestnut, 87, was born in Horry County, South Carolina, June 7, 1926, the second of two sons of D.M. and Hattie C. Chestnut.  

He died on Tuesday, March 25, at WakeMed in Raleigh, only ten day after the death of his wife, Fannie B. Chestnut.  

They were married in June, 1944.  

A 1943 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned duty as a motor machinist mate on the USS LCS-99.  

His ship was dispatched to the South Pacific Theater where he participated in the invasion of Okinawa, Iwo Jima (where he saw the American flag raised) and the Solomon Islands.  

Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he joined the National Aeronautics and Space Commission at Langley Field, VA, the forerunner of NASA, and later returned home to Roanoke Rapids and served two tours of duty with the Army National Guard.  

He was formerly the Aide D’Camp to the National Commander of the VFW and was, at the time of his death, an active member of the American Legion.

“Nut,” as he was affectionately known, retired from Champion International Paper Company after 30 years of service.

While he was able to do so, he loved to hunt, fish, fly his airplanes, hunt for arrowheads, and make great discoveries with his metal detector.  

He was an expert gardener and later in life become quite adept at computer technology and restoring old photos.

Nut was predeceased by his parents and only brother, Donald Chestnut of Roanoke Rapids, and his wife, Fannie B. Chestnut who died on March 15.  

He is survived by his son of whom he was quite proud, L. McNeil Chestnut and daughter-in-law Sandra Chestnut of Raleigh, very special grandson, Austin M. Chestnut and his special joy, his two great grandsons, Jackson McNeil Chestnut and Logan Henry Chestnut, all of Raleigh.  

He is also survived by nephew David E. Barrow of Myrtle Beach, SC, and wife Brenda, grandnephew David Cox, and grandnieces Alyssa Gates, Jessica Hassleman, and Terri C. Harrison, all of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in Cedarwood cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 at the funeral home.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Chestnut’s service to his Country.

Roger William Dalton Jr.

Roger William Dalton Jr.

Roger William Dalton Jr. died Sunday, April 6, 2014.

Roger, a native of Craven County, was the son of the late Roger William Dalton Sr. and Louise Eborn Dalton Lupton. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Roger was a mason and past master of Grantham Lodge #725 and a worthy patron of the Vida Grantham Chapter #348 of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Bern, NC. He was also a member of the Sudan Shriners and a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite.

A Coca-Cola man from an early age, Roger was general manager of Weldon Coca-Cola and was employed with the company for 32 years. After his years with Coke, he went on to pursue other careers, owning and operating Heavenly Ham, working as general manager of Acme Chevrolet-Cadillac-Olds, and working as a commercial real estate broker with Wilkie Real Estate.

A longtime community leader, Roger served the public as a commissioner on the Halifax County Board of Commissioners and as a trustee on the Halifax Community College Board of Trustees. He also applied his business skills as a member of the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board, as a chairman of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission, as a charter member of Halifax County Business Horizons, as a two-time president of the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, and in numerous other leadership positions.

The family would like to thank Halifax Home Health and Hospice, particularly Marie, Karen, Cheryl, Marion, and Ann, for their special care and concern for Roger and his family during the past several months. The family would also like to thank Drs. Maradiaga and Miller for all of their medical care and Starke Rogers for his assistance with Roger’s care.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years Edna Collins Dalton; mother Louise Eborn Lupton; sons Jeffrey William Dalton and his wife Alexandra of Raleigh; Roger Stanley Dalton of Roanoke Rapids and Kathy Jewell of Greenville, NC; granddaughter Savannah Grace Dalton; sister-in-law Sue Collins Hardison and her husband David and niece Jennifer Paige Hardison of New Bern; and brother-in-law Ronald Elbert Collins and his wife Sue of Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Rosemary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. The Reverend Dr. Layne Wallace will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery with masonic rites and military honors. 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Dorothy Zimmerman Goldberg 99, of Henrico died Tuesday April 15, 2014. Mrs. Goldberg was native of Stewarts Draft, Virginia

She is survived by her daughter Betty Goldberg of Henrico.

Per Mrs. Guldberg’s request there will not be a funeral Service held for her.

Arthur Thomas 'HawkBuzz' Hawks

Arthur Thomas “HawkBuzz” Hawks 62, of Valentines, Virginia died Tuesday, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Arthur a native of Charleston, West Virginia was the son, of the late Arthur Richard and Velma Moses Hawks. He was also preceded in death by his, brother James Richard Hawks.

He worked as an electrician, at Kapstone Kraft Paper Corporation.

A member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Arthur loved golf, boating, friends and family. He lived life to the fullest.

Surviving is his wife, Marsha C. Hawks, his, sister Marjorie H. Cox of Roanoke Rapids, his niece, Jamie Hawks Gager and nephews, Brandon Hawks and Paul Cox.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday at 3 P.M. at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg, Virginia with Minister Greg Hand officiating.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids where the family will receive friends Saturday from 6-7:30 P.M.

 


James Leon 'Buck' Jones

James Leon “Buck” Jones, 77, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Wake Med.

Buck was born January 29, 1937 in Wake County to Harue Edwards Jones and the late Lester Leon Jones.

He graduated from Knightdale High School and served his country in the US Army. Buck retired as a rural mail carrier from the US Postal Service with 34 years and 8 months of dedicated service. Buck was a member of the Wendell Masonic Blue Lodge #565, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and the Amran Shriners. After retirement, he and his wife Janet moved to Roanoke Rapids to be near their daughter and her family.

Buck was a dedicated family man who never met a stranger and always had time to sit and talk. 

A memorial service to celebrate Buck’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Rosemary United Methodist Church, 900 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 with the family to receive relatives and friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 24, 2014 at New Knightdale Baptist Church Cemetery, Mailman Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 with military honors.

The family will receive relatives and friends following the service in the Knightdale Baptist Church Family Life Center. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Janet Hall Jones; son: Michael L. Jones (Hale) of Raleigh; daughter: Leigh Ann J. Eatman (Al) of Roanoke Rapids; mother: Harue E. Jones of Knightdale; grandsons: Parker Jones (Amy), Cameron Jones, Deans and Thomas Eatman; sister: Libby Jean J. Wilder (Billy) of Knightdale.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother: Linwood Jones. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

Burt Spruill Hudson 65, of Roaring Gap, NC died Sunday April 20, 2014.

Burt, a native of Roanoke Rapids, was the son of the late Herman Murrell Hudson, Jr. and Doris Paige Spruill Hudson.

Burt was a 1968 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High school, served his country in the United States National Guard, was a 32ndDegree Scottish Rite Mason and was a Boy Scout earning its highest honor of Eagle Scout.

Burt is survived by his wife, Juanita W. Hudson of Roaring Gap; his son Aaron Hudson and his wife, Kristenand their son William of Raleigh; brother Ames Hudson and his wife Alicelyn of Destin, FL; nephew Andy Hudson of Hollywood, FL; nieces Audrey Garris of Durham, NC and Caroline Hudson of Tallahassee, FL; stepsons John Paul Jones, Jr. and his wife, Heather of Ennice, NC and Jeffrey J. Jones and his wife, Jaime of Roaring Gap; two step grandchildren Emma and Hadden Jones; brother-in-law Jim Waddell and his wife, Taryn of Cane Hill, Ark and life-long friend Bill Davis of Washington, NC.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 P.M. until service time.

Carlton Lewis Brantley 75, of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday morning with his family by his side.

Carlton a native of Halifax County was the son of the late, Willie Jackson and Rosella Acree Brantley. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Lewis Brantley, sisters Josephine Twiford, Mildred Stephenson and two brothers Albert and Bill Brantley.

 

He was the owner /operator of B&B Electrical and was a Life- long Member of Stanley White Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is his wife, of 46 years, Sylvia Wynne Brantley, his son Carlton L. Brantley II and Nicole Gabriel of Kill Devil Hills, his sister, Delsie B. Fanney of Roanoke Rapids; sister-In-law, Mary Kathryn Brantley of Roanoke Rapids; two grandchildren Amanda Brantley McSwain and her husband Justin, Mark Brantley and his wife Danielle; three great grandchildren Logan McSwain, Riley McSwain  and Savanna Brantley; four special nieces, Michelle Moseley, Chris Smith Moseley, Cynthia Jackson and Gaile West and other nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday May 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Stanley White Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Brunk officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Patricia a native of Windsor was the daughter of the late James Linwood and Evelyn Hollomon Boswell.

She is survived by her husband Harry W. Timberlake, Jr.; sons Brian Henderson and his wife, Cheryl of Macclesfield and Ryan Kent Timberlake of Greenville; grand children Kaiden Timberlake, Kameron Timberlake, Payton Henderson and Dylan Henderson; sisters Sheila Morgan and her husband, Charlie of Morehead City; Sharon Peele of Greenville and her brother Joe Boswell and his wife, Hazel of Robersonville.

 Funeral services will be held Saturday May 3, 2014 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Tim Sauls officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood in Roanoke Rapids.

Sandra Farrow Byrum Brown 69, of Roanoke Rapids died Sunday May 11, 2014.

Sandra a native of Northampton County was the daughter of the late Richard Gilbert and Stella Louise Martin Farrow.

She was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Sandra is survived by her husband Robert L. Brown, Jr.; her daughter Felica Byrum Hollingsworth of Murfreesboro; her sons Tommy D. Byrum, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Pendleton; Kevin W. Byrum and his wife, Susan of Pendleton and Craig D. Byrum and his fiancée, Crystal of Creeksville; three sisters Geraldine Wernock of Surf City; Linda Faye Bush and her husband, Clarence of Buxton; Bobbie Byrd and her husband, Charles of Creeksville; one brother Richard H. Farrow and his wife, Judy of Creeksville; thirteen grand children, seven great grand children and one on the way. Many special nieces and nephews; father of her children Tommy D. Byrum and his wife, Linda of Pendleton and a very special kanine member of the family her lab, “ Buddy Forever”.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday May 15, 2014 at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Minister Dale Morris officiating.

The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 at the funeral home.

Surviving is her husband Donald Emil Vickstrom; her daughters Lynn Vickstrom of Ruskin, Florida and Donna Walter and her, husband George of High Point, NC; sons Dan Vickstrom and his wife, Ann of St Petersburg, Florida and Doug Vickstrom and his wife, Sharon of Beaver Dam, Virginia. 

Funeral Services will be held Monday May 19, 2104 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Littleton with Rev. Stan Lewis, Rev. Jim Pearson and Rev. Hunter Preston officiating.

Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

James 'Jim' Daughtry Bailey

James “ Jim “ Daughtry Bailey 74, of Roanoke Rapids went to be with the Lord Saturday May 17, 2014.

Jim was born in Roanoke Rapids on March 12, 1940. He was the son of the late Paul Edward and Alice Vaughan Bailey. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law Jean King and two brother-in-laws Bob Ashby and Roscoe Wrenn.

Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, deacon and a friend to all. He loved his family, grandsons, fishing, hunting and golf. Jim was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids high school. He served his Country in the United States Air Force.

He started working at J. P. Stevens 1965. He worked in the textile industry for many years and retired from the Bibb Company. After his retirement he began selling cars for many years. He was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church, the Lions club and served on the board of the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District, and formerly served on various boards in Roanoke Rapids.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years,  Barbara “ Bobbie” Farmer Bailey; their daughter Debbie B. Hargrove and her husband Mike of Roanoke Rapids; his grandsons Jordan and Spenser Hargrove; two sisters Joan Wrenn of Plant City Florida and Paula Emerick and her husband Ron of Wexford, PA; two sister-in-laws  Carolyn Ashby, Ann Harris and her husband Alonza both of Roanoke Rapids; brother-in-law Goody King of Roanoke Rapids; several cousins, nieces, nephews whom he loved very much.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosemary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 at Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Joe Vance Overcash 69, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday May 17, 2014 with his family by his side.

Joe was the son of the late Howard S. and Clara Brown Overcash.   

Joe served his Country in the United States Marine Corp. He was retired from Wachovia Bank.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Fleming Overcash; two daughters, Cher Cannon and her husband, Joey and Dawn Rowland and her husband, Walt both of Kinston; his son Joe V. Overcash, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Lewisville; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday May 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Jim Bell officiating.

Burial followed in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Helen (Adams) Poindexter

Helen Adams Poindexter, 84, of Roanoke Rapids, died May 23, 2014 at her home after a long illness.

She was a lifelong resident of the city and was born December 19, 1929 to the late James Rufus Adams and Miverna Finch Hux and was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Albert Meriweather Poindexter. 

She loved traveling, music, reading, dancing, golf, painting, and making crafts. Throughout her life, she enjoyed a very special bond with a few individual cats. Helen was employed as a silk screen painter for J.P. Stevens and carried that skill into a hobby of oil painting and other artistic endeavors. During her daughters' early years, she worked in the cafeteria at W.L. Manning Elementary School and worked her way up to manager.

She is survived by her partner of 27 years, Edward A. Harper, Sr. of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Lisa Strawn and husband, David of Clermont, GA and Cheryl Jenkins and husband, Ed of Dumfries, VA; sister, Margaret Shearin of Roanoke Rapids; brother, Bill Adams of Williamston, NC; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids which is handling the arrangements. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the Askew Chapel at 2:30 PM with Dr. Ed Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice of Roanoke Rapids for their expertise and kindness during her final battle with COPD.

Dr. Hector Chan Manlapas

Dr. Hector Chan Manlapas of Roswell, Ga. formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday March 22, 2014, in Roswell with his family by his side.

He was born, on December 21, 1939, in Camarines Paracales, Philippines , to the late Dr. Segunda Chan Manlapas and Dr. Hermenegildo Manlapas. Dr. Manlapas was a long time resident of Roanoke Rapids and was with Halifax Medical specialist for many years. He was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne Kearse Manlapas;  his daughters, Katherine Chan Manlapas of Gold Valley, Minn; Mary Ruth Manlapas of Alpharetta, Ga.; his sons Michael Paul Manlapas of Roswell, Ga.; Mark Andrew Manlapas  of Atlanta, Ga.; five grand children, Chan, Emma, Jarrett, Keira and Sammy; his sister Dr. Flordeliza Florendo and family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Pius Wekesa officiating.

A reception will be held in the Parish Hall immediately following the service. All are invited.

Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

Thomas Lewis Camp

Thomas Lewis Camp 87, of Roanoke Rapids died Wednesday May 28, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Thomas a native of Northampton County was the son of the late William Hinton and Odessa Rowell Camp. He was also preceded in death by his wife Delores Riggan Camp; sister Marie Woodruff and his brothers Gordon, William, Henry, Graham and Otis Camp.

Thomas Served his Country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Shaw-May post # 38 having served as Commander.

He was a member of Rosemary United Methodist Church. He worked for Leonard tire for many years and then ran camp tire for seven years.

He is survived by his sons Greg Camp and his wife, Pam and William Camp and his wife, Lynn all of Roanoke Rapids; five grand children Marian Camp, Alan Camp, Tyler Camp, Katie Sidlosky and Casey Baird.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Bell officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood cemetery with Military honors.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Askew funeral and cremation services in Roanoke Rapids.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rosemary United Methodist Church 900 Jackson Street Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 or Shaw-May post # 38 P.O. Box 296 Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Elizabeth “Lib” Owen Wilson 88, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday June 4, 2014.

A native of Davidson County, NC she was the daughter of the late, Willie Ray and Nellie Disher Owen, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her, husband Hobert Claude “Woody” Wilson.

She is survived by her son Stephen “Steve” Wilson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; her nieces, Cheryl Brown of Winston-Salem and Jana Owen of Trinity, NC; her nephew, Willie Ray Owen, III of Denton, NC

Graveside Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Dr Layne Wallace officiating.

In lieu of flowers in her, honor you may make donations to Rosemary Baptist Church where she was a member, 936 Jackson Street Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 or the V foundation 106 Towerview Court Cary, NC 27513.
